Our Client the Technology Strategy Board works with business across a wide range of sectors to promote innovation leading to wealth creation for the UK. The TSB takes the lead in a partnership with the British National Space Centre to deliver the maximum benefit to the UK through the commercial exploitation of space technology.
They now wish to recruit a Lead Technologist responsible for developing and implementing, with partners, the Technology Strategy for UK wealth creation in the area of Satellite Telecommunications.
Reporting to the Head of Special Projects the Lead Technologist-Satellite Telecommunications will be responsible for the Technical Management of the UK’s participation in the European Space Agency’s Advanced Research into Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) Programme; provide leadership and direction for project teams that may include internal TSB staff, external partners, consultants and business customers; represent the TSB as programme lead at high level meetings, conferences, workshops and similar activities to develop and enhance the reputation of the organisatio; and network effectively with technologists and others within TSB, and with the relevant Knowledge Transfer Networks and other business focused knowledge sharing networks.
You must

have credibility within the TSB and at a senior level with partners, be comfortable working across a matrix organisation, have a broad understanding of commercial space activity and be able to represent the TSB nationally and internationally in this area.You will be confident working with large budgets, handling complex programmes, managing project monitoring processes, communicating within and across teams, providing technical and business leadership, and networking with industry and stakeholders.
Candidates must have:
• a robust knowledge of satellite telecommunications systems,
• knowledge and experience of the engineering and commercialisation of satellites systems, equipments and applications.
• a proven track record in developing and exploiting satellite systems in a business context.
• professional experience and credibility in satellite systems, with experience of working across technology fields and with a broad and up-to-date understanding of key technology trends more generally.
A degree in a science or engineering discipline to good Honours level, and Chartered membership of an appropriate professional body are essential.
